Hi,

Don't forget that tonight is Ceilidh night!

This time the ceilidh is at RANMOOR HALL OF RESIDENCE,
featuring a ceilidhsoc band and callers Tref and John. Starts at 8.30pm, £2
for members before 9, £3 after or £2.50 with a flyer, £4 for non-members
or £3 to join.

Before the ceilidh there will be a FREE guitar workshop with Peter Rophone,
starting at 7.15. Just turn up (with a guitar).

Upcoming Events:

-Sheffield Contra Dance:

Contra combines the familiar figures of ceilidh or barn dancing in smooth,
flowing sequences with the improvisational element of Swing to produce an
energetic, fun, social dance form that's easy to learn.

You don't need to bring a partner, there will be loads to choose from.
Each dance is first taught by the caller and then called continuously as
it is danced.

WHEN: Friday 3 Dec. Intro to contra Workshop at 8pm, dance proper starts
at 9.
WHERE: Stephenson Hall of Residence.
HOW MUCH: Admission is £6 waged/£4 unwaged (student). £2 discount If you
show up for the workshop before 8:30
WHO: Live band and caller featuring ceilidhsoc regulars Ian Roberts and
Charley Fox.

-IVFDF
The fantastic Inter Varsity Folk Dance Festival is approaching
again - Feburary 26-28! The festival this year is at UEA, Norwich. A
weekend packed with
ceilidhs, workshops, displays, concerts, and apparently a 12 hour ceilidh
marathon... (I don't think you have to go for the whole 12 hours
though...) All the details are at http://www.ivfdf2005.org/. There will
be some flyers at the next ceilidh. As usual, ceilidhsoc will be taking a
coach (the journey itself can be quite something, with singing, sessions,
even a bit of dancing...)

See you tonight,

Owain
