Evening all

Just to remind everyone that the ceilidh that was originally planned for the 9th of April has been cancelled due to the easter holidays and a general lack of musicians/people/vehicles/bar available that day.

However all is not lost as one of the hottest young musicians in the folk world, Dogan Mehmet, is playing the Boardwalk on the 8th of April with his band The Deerhunters featuring the accordianist extraordinaire Colin Nicholson and ceilidhsoc's own master of the bass, Tom Redman.

If you have been unfortunate enough to have never heard of Dogan here is your chance and it will be well worth the effort. Brighton born and bred, Dogan Mehmet is a second generation
Turkish
Cypriot, with both sides of his family from the island. A fluent
Turkish speaker, Dogan’s heritage forms a big part of his musical
identity, alongside his love for Southern English traditional music.

A runner up at the 2008 BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards he has played with the likes of Martin Carthy,
Steafan Hannigan, The Park Bench Social Club and at the Folk Against Fascism launch with Spiers & Boden, Eliza Carthy, Show of Hands, Paul Sartin, Maclaine Coulston and Jim Moray.

If that hasn't convinced you that this gig will be brilliant, listen to his myspace and be converted

The gig starts at 9:30, the tickets are £8 and can be bought from here

Hope to see you there
T'Committee
